At the crossroads of Vries-Zuidlaren and Assen-Groningen, deep in the hart of the northern part of the province of Drenthe in the Netherlands, is the home of the South Avenue Bluesband. Somewhere back in 2002 Roelof Meijering (vocals & bassguitar) and Jan Arend Kamphuis (guitar) started playing in place at the Zuidlaarderweg (yes.. that's the South Avenue) on a regular basis and played good old sounding bluesmusic. After playing together for a couple of years, Berend Klaassens (guitar) and Peter Vleeshouwer (drums) joint playing music on a regular basis. From that time on the band is known as the South Avenue Bluesband. In 2006 Jan Vleeshouwer joint the band with his beautifull raw sax sound. In januari 2008 'The Pianoman' Chris van de Werfhorst completed the band. The place at the Zuidlaarderweg is still used every wednesday evening for very upbeat rehearsals. At times the neighbours are enjoying a free gig in their own garden. After one succesfull year we released our first CD called Home Boy. At regular times we're gigging at bars, bluesfestivals and parties. A gig of the South Avenue Bluesband is famous for its traditional blues and solid bluesrock numbers. If you ever have the opportunity, go and see us live! |
